Many people have a dream to make money blogging including myself. What many people don’t realise is that this is both very simple and very hard at the same time. Why am I contradicting myself? Over the last 5 or so years I have seen what looks like the most effortless thing in the world: bloggers and affiliate marketers almost seemingly making money at will without much effort and I have also seen myself try over and over again and fail. Making money online takes perseverance, dedication and being passionate about what you do. In this post I will talk about my own experiences and what I think it takes to be successful online.
What you don’t see behind every successful blogger
The success of others can make do 2 things:
1. Inspire you to become a success yourself or
2.Make you feel overwhelmed especially when you try and fail on your first attempts.
I have ridden the roller-coaster of both emotions in my time trying to make a living online. I would see someones success story and get excited about blogging and affiliate marketing then i would make an attempt and not seeing immediate success I would get discouraged that I’m doing something wrong. What I didn’t see was the what those success stories did behind the scenes. their willingness to never give up along their passion behind their niches. With this combo even if one is not making a dime online you will still be having great time talking about what you love and helping others. That said here are my keys to becoming a successful blogger going forward:
Find your passion and share it!eat it! breathe it! and live it!
Its taken way too long to realize that making money by blogging is my passion lol. It may sound cliche but I think about it everyday ,I read about it every day and now all I have to do is talk about it everyday! Share my success and failures and in the process help others.
Help others first; money second.
I have been guilty of this many times. Focusing on how I’m going to make money in a particular niche without putting my audience first. This leads to picking niches which you are not passionate about and you lose interest quickly. Once you provide meaningful, helpful content the money will come.
Perseverance and discipline
I find we live in a society based on the instant. we want success overnight we want it all and we want it now. I’ve learnt the hard way it doesn’t work like that maybe a very lucky few will experience that but luck is very fleeting and we would rather not be at its mercy. you have to have the discipline to set targets that are achievable and go out there and do them followed up with the perseverance to get up when you fail and tweak aspects of your last failure in order to make your next attempt a success. as an example give yourself a year of consistent work in your niche then take a measure of whether it was a success or not. the most successful bloggers didn’t start to see significant incomes for atleast 6 months to year (those that stuck with it is)
Stop making excuses, stop postponing and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! probably my biggest problem which I fully intend to correct. This blog is my first action step and consistent posting and finding solutions to problems I will encounter will be the continuation on the journey to making a living online.
Know your strengths and weaknesses
Knowing areas where you are strongest and areas where you need help cannot be underestimated. For me this will boost your efficiency by knowing and doing the tasks which you are strongest yourself and either getting help or delegating the tasks which you know you are weakest at. For me I realise that I am good at generating ideas but when it comes to putting the content down on screen I lose interest as I type. I have decided to purchase a speech to text software to help me in this. Its all about efficiency.
Invest in yourself
When I first heard of making money online I never had a job and hence no money to build websites, get training etc so I looked for short cuts and absolute cheapest solutions to try and accomplish my goals. In the long run this has hampered my progress. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying you cannot get by with being cheap just be prepared to pay the cost in terms of time. there are some great low cost tools that can really help but if you can afford pay the little extra for better tools where available. If you go the cheap route, as soon as your efforts start to pay off consider reinvesting your income back into your business!
Going forward it is my utmost intention to put these keys to the ignition and drive forward. Hopefully this will also inspire you to either get started blogging or rekindle your efforts aswell. I would like to hear your experiences or how you plan to tackle trying to make money blogging. Please leave a comment below ?
